With 15 years of DJing and production behind him and over 100 releases on his Freerange label, now seems an apt moment to release a collection of some of the best of Jimpster’s remixes from the last four years. Jimpster, aka Jamie Odell, is one of the key figures pushing forward the deeper sound of house, proving that it needs to be neither fast nor brash to induce that uncontrollable sense of musical intoxication that makes your heart sing and your feet bounce. Opening with the cosmic disco of Tam Cooper’s ‘Galactica’, Disk One builds up through the rousing pianos of Joris Voorn’s ‘The Deep’, the urgent strings of Kiko Navarro’s ‘Siempre’, and the beguiling US influenced grooves of Delano Smith’s ‘Message For The DJ’, before the blissed-out, halcyon tones of Iz & Diz’s ‘Love Vibe’ kick in. |

They're full of surprises, the Dutch. Just when you think you've got them pegged - windmills, tulips, clogs, etc - they turn around and shock you by doing something like. being surprisingly good at cricket. No, really. Who knew? Likewise, just when you think you've got Dutch music pegged - the Netherlands is after all home to the mighty trance triumvirate that is Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten - they turn around and shock you by secretly being home to a vast array of DJing and production talent from across the spectrum. Actually, their cricket team aren't THAT good*, so it's just as well their DJs and producers are good enough to make up for them. |
